<aside> 💡 Bare feet could represent being comfortable - either with herself or with others. She also usually has bare feet in natural settings in her Music Videos, illustrating perhaps that she is wild and part of nature - in her element in these places when she can be her true self. She’s had two references to bare feet in winter - one in the Out of the Woods MV and in the song Evermore - “barefoot in the wildest winter catching my death.” The first reference she was comfortable with her bare feet in the cold and did not seem perturbed by it. But the Evermore lyric could suggest that, at least retrospectively, she knew that in that moment she had “caught her death.” This could suggest that this love interest - the one she depicts beginning in the snow - has ended and she can see that it was there from the beginning. She’s also had three references to dancing barefoot in New York - one in the Delicate MV, then in Cornelia Street - “barefoot in the kitchen” and, finally, in the song Maroon - “the one I was dancing with in New York, no shoes.” Dancing in a city as opposed to a natural environment could mean that she is still able to be her wild, natural self in this city. This could be because she’s invisible in the Delicate MV and she is inside her private home in Cornelia Street, so she is safe enough to be this true, wild self.
