<aside> 💡 Analysis - Taylor seems to link her flying theme with the thrilling but precarious nature of fame - of being at the “top” looking down on the world but knowing that the world can easily look up at you. This feels particularly symbolised in the lyrics for ‘Nothing New’.

<aside> 🌈 Queer history/other queer artists: Brandi Carlile released a song in 2021 called “You and Me On The Rock” and she likens herself to a paper plane, similar to Taylor’s use of this image in ‘Out of the Woods’. Both songs speak of fragility & trying to find safety - Taylor hasn’t found it yet in OOTW but Brandi has found it in “You and Me On The Rock”. Now that Brandi has found her wife & made a family, people are no longer speculating about her & her choices. Another parallel we see between this song & Taylor’s discography is in Labyrinth “I thought the plane was going down, how’d you turn it right around?”
