<aside> 💡 Analysis - “walk a thin line” and other versions of this idiom mean to navigate between two sides or to be in a difficult situation where a mistake is very easy.

Taylor sang three of her songs that reference the ”line” theme as surprise songs on her Eras show in Sydney on 25/02/24 - “I Wish You Would” (mashup with “Is It Over Now?”), “Haunted” & “Exile”.
Taylor’s use of the term “tightrope” could be a metaphor similar to the one above (walking a fine line aka doing something risky) but could further be analysed as doing something risky in order to entertain society/her fans. It links with the circus theme in that sense.

“I Walk The Line” by Johnny Cash is a song about fidelity to your lover even though it is incredibly difficult and tempting to stray.

Fleetwood Mac also has a song called “Walk A Thin Line”

<aside> 👸 Relevance to Taylor’s Life: Harry Styles released the album “Fine Line” on Taylor’s Birthday, 13th of December 2019. The title track explores ideas around buying emotion (could be a bearding reference), the difficult conundrum of wanting opposing things in a relationship & seeing the relationship as a fine line: “we’ll be a fine line.” Harry defines this connection as a fine line which is a phrase that means: “a very small difference between two things that may seem different.” He could be speaking to there being a fine line between this love being good or bad for him, a fine line between his masculine and feminine gender identities, a fine line between lying about his relationships with women and protecting himself from scrutiny/homophobia.
